PERMACULTURE INSTITUTE OF ASIA & THAILAND RESILIENCE CENTER
EMPOWERING GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP thru sustainable education in Schools with
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG)
Our vision for youth of Asia is a greener future and belief in the powerful impact gardening programs can have on the mental, physical, and psychological health of individuals. School Gardening engages students by providing a dynamic environment to observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn. School Gardens are living laboratories where interdisciplinary lessons are drawn from real life experiences, encouraging students to become active participants in the learning process. Peer-to-peer learning shifts the focus from the lone self to the interdependent group. Learning ceases to be an isolated experience between an authority figure and student and is transformed into a community experience. We educate students in the interconnectedness of our lives and society to nature and how to live and act as part of an interconnected shared biosphere.
A new guide from the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Australia/Pacific and Permaculture Institute Asia highlights the important role universities in Australia, New Zealand and Asia/ Pacific have in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and provides a practical guide on how these can accelerate the creation of the new generation of global citizens. In alignment with these goals the Permaculture Institute of Thailand (PIT) and the Permaculture Institute Asia (PIA) implement key elements of the SDG’s (September 2018) in its courses and programs and promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in schools across Asia.
In support of the Paris Climate Agreement and COP23
These seventeen goals state the desired partnerships to – End Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Production and Consumption, Climate Action, Life below Water, Life on Land, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Partnerships for the goals. Permaculture Institute Asia (PIA) and Permaculture Institute Thailand (PIT) are key partners in promoting and educating these values, and the technology and skills necessary to meet these key goals.
Our focus on biosphere consciousness, water systems, food systems, renewable energy, communication, appropriate technology, create new lateral relationships to the earths biosphere, each other, a new consciousness and new skills to become a global citizen for the 21st century.
